lauracb

my sister was opening a small package in front of me (and possibly our parents). it was feeling momentous. i soon realized it was a jewelry box(!) could it be that rumors of her pending engagement to her boyfriend were proving true?!

i thought she would pull the engagement ring from the box and put it on her finger right there.

well, she instead pulled two wedding rings from the box. wedding rings? didn't she need to get engaged first? i whispered to her and asked about the engagement ring--'it's on the way', she replied.

the rings were gold and decorative. a closer look showed lots of little swirly designs and words. repeated over and over (at least on her ring) was Lauracb (in script).

i was touched. my name on her wedding rings. forever. it was very emotional and i cried a little. how sweet of her!

then, though, i needed to tell her that i didn't like that she used 'lauracb'. that's my unique i.d. from my graduate school. my grad school email address. my grad school computer logon. it didn't seem that it should be engraved forever on her ring. i would've preferred just my real name.

That's weird. I had a grad school related dream too. I dreamt that I had started a virtual library school, so that people could become librarians while working anywhere. When we got ALA accredited I had to give a news conference, but because I was shy I invented an alter-ego to do publicity named Mrs. Good Manners.

when you (um, i mean 'mrs. good manners') did the news conference did you/she wear a blue unitard with cream-colored pin stripes! that would surely get them signing up for library school in droves!

I recall wearing a blue house dress with polka dots and talking in falsetto. I'm not sure how that would have allayed my shyness. When dressing for success and confidence, the blue unitard with pinstripes can't be beat!
