dream overheard
while visiting the art instititute of chicago the other day i overheard a young woman talking to an older woman about a dream she had last night. let's assume they were mother and daugher.
the daughter dreamt that the mother had erased all her barbie's faces with nail polish remover because she (mom) was mad that she (daughter) had left them out and not put them away. one of the eyes was all faded and weird on one of the barbies and that's when daughter realized mom had rubbed their faces with the remover as punishment.
overhearing this dream, i found it to be a little disturbing. the mom seemed to think so, too. daughter, on the other hand, was laughing loudly and said that even in the dream she thought it was funny. they were having this discussion in a miniatures exhibit at the art institute. the rooms on display were a little like dollhouses. not a dollhouse barbie would live in, though. i was not allowed to have barbies, but i seem to remember (from visits to my friend jeannette's house), that barbie only lived in plastic houses with lots of pink accents. these displays were miniatures of historic homes without indoor plumbing; certainly not barbie's dreamhouse.
