career change

after only one year in this illustrious profession, eliz had tired of academic librarianship. she tried to explain why, but it didn't make much sense to me. she decided to pursue public librarianship, and was excited about such an opportunity in the chesapeake bay area. her eyes lit up at the mention of it. i had previously seen a job ad printed on a tote bag for a children's librarian in the san juan islands. i suggested that to her, but she did not want to live in the san juans and she did not want to read books to children. relocating to chicago appealed to her, as did some mysterious region in northern oregon. but chesapeake bay seemed to have the highest appeal for this aspiring public librarian. (this may have been a true cinedream. at the seattle international film festival i saw a wonderful film called swimmers that was situated on the chesapeake bay. i previously had never thought much about that region, but the beautiful imagery in the film has stayed with me for months.)

----

i was trying to talk about a diva cup (my second diva cup dream in as many weeks) but i had the phrase 'bike cup' in my head. my words were jumbled and i instead spoke aloud of a 'dyke cup'. the friend to whom i was speaking looked quite surprised. "have you been spying on me?!" she asked.

the funny thing is just last night april and i had this long discussion about how i could never be a public librarian. thought the chesapeake bay is, i'm sure, quite nice.

what a relief! in my dream, i felt a little betrayed that you were rejecting our shared profession. i also was sad that you were going to leave the pnw (although i, too, am sure the chesapeake bay is quite nice).
