christmas trees for jews?

i was talking to the lovely couple ap and al. al asked me if jews can have christmas trees. i pondered this and answered yes. i started to reference the sex and the city episode where charolette converts to judaism, but i stopped mid-reference. (perhaps i remembered that she agreed to give up having a tree). i said it would be okay if i wanted to hang up a kwanzaa decoration, although i acknowledged that i didn't know what one looked like.

ap had a sad look on her face throughout this conversation.

i then mused aloud about christianity being the dominant religion in the u.s. and so that might change the feel of a jew having a tree versus a gentile (like myself) having a kwanzaa decoration. maybe it was not okay. i couldn't decide.
