lightning storm

there was a HUGE thunder and lightning storm. very very loud. we (my mom and dad and i and some others) were all lying on the floor in fetal positions as if that would keep us safe. i was wearing a bike helmet. my dad kept telling me that the lightning was safe once the electrical charge passed. (um, doesn't that mean the lightning is safe once it's gone?) he did not seem to be afraid of the surge of electricity. i was very scared. i kept taking deep breaths, afraid that if i was electrocuted on an exhale i'd suffocate.
