tacky bride (and memories of the si prom)

i was walking through a hotel-like place. the kind where high-school proms are hosted (it was a lot like the place where the 2002 SI prom was held). during the si prom there were 'regular' high school proms going on in about three other rooms simultaneously. since our prom was, well, irregular with a 'through the decades' theme (or something) i was dressed in a brightly colored polyester 60s/70s dress with hot pink shoes!

anyway, back to my dream. so i was walking through the hallway in this prommy place and found myself behind a bride who was apparently returning to her reception after a trip to the bathroom. she was wearing the most hideous dress i had ever seen!! it was straight and floor-length and covered with white lace (which all seemed normal) but the back of her dress practically didn't exist. there was a part that crossed, bow-tie style around mid-back and then her butt was barely covered, too, with the fabric and other than that she was bare. yikes! i was trying not to look as appalled as i was because she was surrounded by her guests and i did not want to offend her on her wedding day.

well. . . a closer look at the guests revealed that there were several brides, many men in brightly-colored satin dresses, and other folks in bright/tacky/playful attire. i began to think it wasn't a wedding at all, but rather a costume party.

perhaps this bride's dress was inspired by hilary swanks' backless oscars dress? but hilary's dress was actually much less revealing than was the tacky bride's.

i also now remember that the high-school prom attendees during the si prom gave me much the same looks that i was giving the tacky bride. horror. disbelief. righteousness in their superior fashion sense.

Did you tell me about this blog, and somehow I forgot?

I love dreams, these cryptic little messages from the subconscious to the conscious.

yes, i love the 'cryptic little messages' aspect of dreams. but, also, i love when they are just so straightforward that no deep thinking is required. such as my favorite barista post. i didn't mention in the post that at the time i kind of had a crush on my favorite barista. so, in my dream, i got a smile. :) guess i was wishing for crush-reciprocity. not much of a mystery there!

yay!! si prom is back!! i hope someone asks me to be their date. sadly i gave away the polyester dress, but i have a happy pretty pink party dress i could wear!

in 2002 prof. beth went as a flapper, and suresh brought his mom! i showed her my multi-colored indian bangles i was wearing and i like to think she was both touched and impressed.

i also met drago's cute daugher who is appropriately named laura.
